Welcome to Module 5 of ISKCON Deity Worship Ministry’s online course, Deity worship @ home.
Thank you for your contributions to the course so far.
The icebreaker discussions are really amazing.
It is so inspiring to read about your experiences and reflections on deity worship.
This module:
We will compare and contrast deity worship in the temple and deity worship at home. We explore the similarities and differences between the worship done at home and the worship done in the temple. Also we will answer the question, “Do you need to follow the same standard of worship that is followed in a temple?”
We also explore standards of worship at home and how to find the right balance for your situation.
How do you understand what is the best standard for you to follow at home? And finally,
We will learn about arati. What it is, and why we offer arati. We will also learn one method of offering arati.
In this section you will also learn a few practical things such as different ways of making ghee wicks.
Now we are approaching the end of the course, it is a good time to look at how you are progressing.
Each week there are a number of videos or readings with quizzes, and sometimes exercises for you to complete. These all contribute to your overall assessment results so please do your best to stay up to date.
As well as the topic specific quizzes and exercises, there are also forum discussions, and end of week quizzes for you to complete each week. When you complete your own forum post, please do comment on at least two other devotees' posts. An important part of learning is sharing our realizations, so make sure you include your comments on other devotees forum posts.
As well as the quizzes and forum discussions, there are also several video assignments for you to upload: acamana, offering food, and this week, the final video, offering arati.
Regarding the arati video: If you don’t have all the ingredients we have used in our demonstration for offering arati, simply do a video of yourself offering arati with whatever ingredients you have available at home.
If you haven’t done it yet, please do upload your personal introduction. This can be written or an audio recording, with photos, but I do prefer to see a video of you introducing yourself. 2 or 3 minutes maximum please.
Additionally, there are weekly journal entries. This is where you get the opportunity to reflect on what you have learnt, and explore how you can apply it in your own deity worship or devotional life.
Most of the tasks are quite simple. If you have any difficulty completing any of the tasks please let us know if we can be of any assistance via the email address idwm-courses@iskcon.org.
Once again, thanks for being here with us, and hope you are really getting a lot of benefit from this course.
Hare Krsna!
